Michael Palin: Around the World in 80 Days
Michael Palin attempts to re-create the journey of the fictional character of Phileas Fogg (from the Jules Verne novel after which the series is named) who circumnavigates the globe (without flying) in 80 days. Palin maps out routes, juggles transportation schedules and manages to take in some sights and immerse himself in the many native cultures he encounters on his travels in this culturally significant series.
The Challenge
Michael Palin accepts the challenge to set off around the world recreating the
Phileas Fogg trip of circumnavigating the world in 80 days.
The first episode sees Michael setting off and covers the first 7 days of his
adventure.
Arabian
Frights
This episode covers days 7 to 14 and follows Palin from Venice to Alexandria,
Cairo, Suez & Jeddah.
Ancient
Mariners
Days 14 to 25 as Palin travels from Arabia to India, via Dubai & on a Dhow
through the Strait of Hormuz.

Close Shave
This episode follows days 25-39 follows Bombay to Singapore via Poona and Madras,
10 days behind schedule, with more trouble looming.
Oriental
Express
Days 39-45 from Singapore to Hong Kong where he departs on a catamaran to Guangzhou
in China.
Far
East and Farther East
Days 47 to 58 and Michael sails out of Shanghai bound for Yokohama on mysteriously
empty Chinese ferry and still 10 days behind schedule.
Dateline
to Deadline
It has taken Michael 58 days to reach the International Date Line, and now he
has only 22 days to complete the second half of the circumnavigation. This includes
the Pacific, the US & the Atlantic & at breakneck pace. Will he make
it?
